TR-12 The Accused "Paint It Red" 7"
The Accused were probably my favorite band of all time. When I started the label, I planned to do releases by local bands, but I also hoped to be able to do a release for one of the bands that I had listened to daily over the years. Of course many of the bands were no longer together, which included The Accused. I had a cover of "Paint It Black" by The Accused on a home-made compilation tape, that had never been released, and I talked to Blaine about releasing it. It was a dream come true when Blaine not only agreed, but let me choose the title and work with Jeff Gaither to design the cover. Blaine sent a whole stack of band photos for the insert (which was quite a task to get shot from poster size down to 7" x7"), label art by K.C. Angel, and a DAT of some additional material to fill out the 7". The sleeve was printed locally by Spectrum Printing, which allowed me to get the plates (used to print the sleeves) back, and have them signed by Jeff Gaither. The original art for the back cover was sold to a collector in Germany, but the front cover drawing remains in the personal collection of Transparent Records. T-shirts were made for this release, featuring the cover on the front and "Transparent Records" on the back. This was the quickest release to sell out, with several hundred copies being immediately purchased by Subterranean for distribution in Japan.
