TR-09 Beefcake In Chains "Vice Amply Rewarded" 7"

This is one of several releases that Transparent Records should not have done. Mistakes were made and lessons were learned, and a lot was lost with this release (both financially and emotionally). This release was a direct contributor to the label being discontinued. In addition to Transparent Records being about punk music, vinyl record collecting, and live shows, it was about art. One of the first things that I did when starting the label was write to the punk artists of the time (Mad Marc Rude, Pushead, Jeff Gaither, Stephen Blickenstaff, R.K. Sloane, Spine, S. Clay Wilson, etc.) to find out if art could be commissioned for upcoming releases. While some of the artists were asking too high of a price, others were more than willing to help out. One particular artist, R.K. Sloane, agreed to to do the art for a single (with the original art becoming the property of Transparent Records), if Transparent Records would put out a single by a band that he knew (Beefcake In Chains). Transparent Records agreed, and pressed the record. R.K. Sloane never provided the art however, and the records sat waiting so long that they could not reasonably be sold. It was later discovered that the art was completed, and that the band used it to produce sleeves for their 75 copies of the record. Eventually, Transparent Records tracked down one of the band copies and made 200 full color sleeves for some of the labels copies, but these are all still boxed and sitting under a pool table in a basement in Michigan. With the original art never received and the records never sold, this release was a total financial loss. It was the first time Transparent Records truly felt ripped off (although later, major losses would be incurred when Rotz Distribution and a local distributor went under).
